Week 4 ~ Comic book

I really enjoyed reading some of the Mary Marvel comic! I immediately chose that one because I wanted to read something with a female character and I had never really heard about her. I know more about the male super heroes because of course they were the ones that had shows when I was growing up and it's mostly them that I heard about.

In class we chose some comics to read and I read some Crime Suspense Stories. Those were really entertaining and I definitely want to read some more of those.
I never really read comics before, I guess mostly because I never had them or knew where to get them. I didn't really grow up reading any comics, not even Archie or any of those that people often mention as ones they read growing up.
I've recently become interested in romance comics mostly for the style of the illustrations, they have definitely played a part in the development of my art work and the female characters that I like to draw. I think the Crime suspense stories will also be a source of inspiration for some f my future illustrations.

Week 3 ~ Comic strip

I enjoyed looking at and reading some of the Litte Nemo comics, they are very cute and the imagery is fun and enchanting. I think some of the text was hard to read or perhaps the illustrations were distracting from the text because I found myself not really wanting to read them.

Week 2 ~ Understanding comics/ Harlots progress

Understanding comics talked about what sequential art is as a medium itself and compared it to other mediums such as film. A film and a comic are in a way similar since they have frames but they exist based on something completely different, a film needs time in order to be a film and the frames appear one by one in a space and a comic is made by multiple frames fitting into a space at the same time instead of individually.
Okay, I don't know why that stuck with me, I guess it was kind of interesting to understand that and see how different mediums can essentially come from the  "comic" . Or not necessarily come from it but just that there are some similarities in how the content is formed?
I guess I think it's kind of silly that comics were also ridiculed or older generations thought they were a waste of time when something like a movie was made up of different frames , or an illustration for example it's one image but add another with some slight differences and it can become sequential art.

I really enjoyed reading the Harlots progress in class that day! Especially seeing each image right after the other it was easy to understand what was going on. I think now even if people don't really have a very good understanding of history you would be able to understand the narrative in each image. It's really amazing to think that we can put together stories from just gathering information in one image.

Week 1 ~ The Arrival

I saw the book for the Arrival before and I remember being really awestruck by the story and of course the images. It was definitely not what I expected when I started reading the images. It's a really sweet story with some moments that are really touching and even a bit saddening.
Even though there is no text it is very easy to read the images and understand what is going on. I think this way you pay more attention to the details of the illustration so that you can catch every part of the story and make out whats going on. It's very captivating and and I think some readers could relate to the character, since he is an immigrant that has to leave his family behind in order to work hard at creating a better life and eventually bring his family over as well.
I could definitely relate to it a bit since my dad left Colombia to come to the U.S first and a few years later he was able to have my mom and I join him as well.
